Khuthaza and BEE

We are a signatory to the Construction Charter and actively support the implementation of the BEE Codes of Good Practice as they provide us with a framework through which we can work closely with the industry to drive meaningful transformation that adds value to the sector.

The elements of BEE outlined in the Codes of Good Practice include:

  • Ownership
  • Leadership and Control
  • Employment Equity
  • Skills Development
  • Enterprise Development
  • Procurement
  • Socio-economic Development

Transformation is an important issue for the housing and construction industries and it is a particularly critical concern for women in the industry. BEE and the Codes of Good Practice will begin to play a greater role in future. It is therefore important that anyone wishing to succeed in the built environment familiarise themselves with the industry’s transformation framework.

The industry has taken a long-term approach towards BEE. A proactive win-win attitude will ensure that the BEE codes are used to:

  • Bring more people into the economy
  • Develop our skills base
  • Spread ownership more widely
  • Assist in the development of smaller businesses
  • Widen and strengthen an industry’s supplier base
  • Encourage the promotion of management skills
  • Contribute to the socio-economic development of the nation as a whole
  • Promote productivity and economic competitiveness
  • Contribute toward the development of a thriving, healthy and safe country

The Codes of Good Practice will be binding on all state and public entities. Government will apply the Codes when entering into contracts related to:

  • Procurement
  • Licensing and Concessions
  • Public Private Partnerships
  • The Sale of State-owned Entities

The private sector, therefore, will need to comply with the Codes if they wish to do business with government in these areas. Any industry role-player involved in the supply chain of government projects will eventually need to contribute to transformation and be rated on that contribution. Companies can improve their access to opportunities if they implement the Codes and have their BEE status verified.

Our strategic growth plan offers sponsors and partners with a number of opportunities to work together in maximising the impact of transformation to the benefit of all.
