Guiding Principles

Mission and Vision

Vision:

An environment in which women have equal access to opportunities in the housing and construction spheres.

Mission:

To encourage and contribute to the development of a transformed and thriving construction industry in which women play a respected and integral role.

Khuthaza operates on the premise that both racial and gender transformation are integral to achieving any type of sustainable development and that transformation, when viewed as a business imperative, will further stimulate industry and national economic growth.

It is on this basis that Khuthaza encourages both the established industry and women to embrace transformation and maximise the opportunities it presents.  Our experience thus far has clearly demonstrated that women are committed to adding value to the industry and will continue to develop their position as valuable role-players.

There is no doubt that bringing more people into the economy, developing the skills base, spreading the level of ownership more widely, assisting the development of smaller businesses and encouraging the promotion of management skills will contribute to the socio-economic development of the nation as a whole.

Current Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) Policies serve as the platform upon which transformation can take place. BEE policies such as the DTI Codes of Good Practice and Scorecard are important tools for the task of transformation; they accelerate change and provide a structure for the process.

Using the BEE policies as a framework, we are now embarking on an aggressive strategic growth plan that aims to turn policies into opportunities for women in the sector.

The Codes of Good Practice provide a framework for promoting transformation across many levels of the industry. While a great deal of emphasis has been placed on the development of women owned construction businesses, it is also critical that we have more women studying in the construction related fields, involved in all levels of management,  running a range of businesses within the construction supply chain, and taking on leadership roles.

There has never been a time of greater opportunity for women in our economy and we must take full advantage of the opportunities we have to develop successful careers and businesses in our sector.
