Standard Bank

Standard Bank has been our main sponsor since 2004. Standard Bank has provided the foundation upon which we have grown from being a very small concern finding its feet as a women’s empowerment organisation to a well recognised, experienced company driving change and development in the greater construction sector. The Bank’s funding has been targeted mainly to our Contractor Development Programmes. Through these programmes we have been able to provide women contractors and those just entering the sector with the skills and support required to develop their businesses. We estimate that over 1500 women have benefitted from the workshops and training programmes offered through Standard Bank’s support.
The Bank’s support has also enabled us to consistently seek to improve and expand our Contractor Development Programmes. In 2008 we offered a series of 40 business and technical workshops for emerging contractors and an 8 month programme, called Re a abelana, for a group of 22 more experienced contractors. Many of the contractors in the Re a abelana programme have benefitted from Standard Bank’s sponsorship over the past several years and have developed significant construction businesses. This year through the foundation provided by Standard Bank we are again taking our programmes to another, more comprehensive level.
It was very valuable to hear the personal experiences shared by women working in the industry

Women’s Build Projects

We have been involved in a number of volunteer house building and shelter renovation projects over the years. These Builds have given us the opportunity to work hand in hand with a number of sponsors and corporate volunteers. The Department of Housing has been a key partner in these projects.
A number of the sponsors mentioned above have contributed financially, through the donation of materials and by contributing their time to these projects. Through these projects we have been able to offer women an opportunity to gain on-site experience and to provide homes for many families.
Thanks once more for the opportunity it was very enlightening and beneficial for Nurcha and for myself!

Aubrey Lees from Nurcha volunteers his time and experience

Nurcha, a construction finance company, has been a long time supporter of the organisation, having provided us with our first home. In addition, many of the staff have volunteered their own time to share their skills and experience. Aubrey Lees has spent many Saturday mornings with us sharing his knowledge of construction and finance with the contractors and new entrants to the sector.
Aubrey has also advised the organisation in terms of our contractor development programmes and has played a key role in guiding the structuring of our expanded 2009 certificate programmes.
Thank you for this training. I have benefitted from it and have grown as an individual. The knowledge passed is invaluable and empowering.

Tjeka Training

Tjeka has been a key partner for several years. Tjeka contributes to our success by providing us with:
- Technical workshops (sponsored) at their Chamdor training centre in Mogale City
- Discounts on formal training
- Joining us on special volunteer projects where they have shared tools, skills and bakkies
- Sharing valuable information and advice
Tjeka provides us with fantastic service, quality training and a great partnership. Many of the women who have come through our ranks attribute a great deal of their knowledge to courses we have run with Tjeka.
I appreciated the opportunity to share with and learn from other participants in the programme. The sharing of experiences, challenges and advice was extremely worthwhile.

Cement & Concrete Institute (C&CI)

C&CI has sponsored training for several years. Through C&CI’s support, courses and their resource centre we are able to offer women an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge. C&CI will again this year offer our programme participants the SCT 10 Concrete Technology and SCT12 Mortars, Screeds, Plasters and Masonry courses. Through a special membership exchange, we have been able to engage closely with C&CI and look forward to taking the relationship further.
These and other contributions have a tangible difference in the lives of women, families and communities. Click here to read more about the women who have benefited from the contribution made by our sponsors and partners.
