Women
How can Khuthaza assist you?
As a non-profit social enterprise, Khuthaza plays many roles. Through numerous initiatives we assist women who are considering a career in construction, students, professionals, entrepreneurs and leaders in the industry.
We are an advocate for women in the housing and construction industries and a facilitator of opportunities for training and development.
We have come to play an important role as an intermediary between women and the industry, a multifaceted role we have begun to refer to as bridgebuilding.
Training and Development
Khuthaza caters to the diverse training and development needs of women in the construction industry. We have partnered with industry role-players to deliver tailor-made programmes. We also identify and facilitate access to relevant training available in the industry.
Opportunities
The construction industry presents many prospects for continued growth and prosperity. We create awareness of these prospects and encourage women to make the most of them.
Opportunities arise in many forms. For women in the industry an opportunity can be anything from training and development to prospects for business partnerships.
We make it a priority to be informed of any opportunities in the built environment, to inform women in the industry, and where possible to aid them in facilitating the realisation of an excellent opportunity.
Black Economic Empowerment (BEE)
Transformation is an important issue for the housing and construction industries and it is a particularly critical concern for women in the industry. BEE and the Codes of Good Practice will begin to play a greater role in the future. It is therefore important that anyone wishing to succeed in the built environment familiarise themselves with the industry’s transformation framework.
The industry has taken a long-term approach towards BEE. A proactive win-win attitude will ensure that the BEE codes are used to:
- Bring more people into the economy
- Develop our skills base
- Spread ownership more widely
- Assist in the development of smaller businesses
- Encourage the promotion of management skills and contribute to the socio-economic development of the nation as a whole
The Codes of Good Practice will be binding on all state and public entities. Government will apply the Codes when entering into contracts related to:
- Procurement
- Licensing and Concessions
- Public Private Partnerships
- The Sale of State-owned Entities
The private sector, therefore, will need to comply with the Codes if they wish to do business with government in these areas. Any industry role-player involved in the supply chain of government projects will eventually need to contribute to transformation and be rated on that contribution. Companies can improve their access to opportunities if they implement the Codes and have their BEE status verified.
We, as women in the industry, have an important role to play in promoting transformation and making the most of the opportunities the BEE Act provides. The Codes are an extremely powerful tool that can be used to accelerate the growth of women in the industry in terms of numbers and in terms of business and career development for individuals.
Women benefit from each of the elements of the Codes and Scorecards. It is essential that women are aware of the opportunities and proactively set out to maximise the opportunities presented.
We encourage you to educate yourselves as much as possible regarding BEE. Understanding the policy better will enable you to position yourself to take advantage of these opportunities!
