BEE – Black Economic Empowerment
The further development of black and female leadership is an important thread that runs throughout the framework of the BEE legislation. Women students, contractors, professionals and decision-makers are called upon to serve as leaders in their respective positions in the industry. In addition, the BEE legislation emphasizes the need to increase the role of women in executive management and at board level.
Leaders at executive management and board level can benefit from BEE through:
- The emphasis placed on increasing the number of black women in strategic decision-making and high level management positions (control and employment equity)
- Incentives for employers to invest in skills development for their staff (skills development, employment equity and control)
- The opportunity for women in decision-making positions to take ownership in established companies, thereby increasing their scope of influence (ownership)
- The limited involvement of women at these levels currently presents great opportunities for accelerated advancement by women with the relevant skills and experience
- The industry’s support of Khuthaza’s Talent Development programmes
