BEE – Black Economic Empowerment

BEE encourages companies to increase the numbers of women involved in all levels of the industry, from students to company directors. The fact that the numbers of women working in the sector are relatively low compared to other sectors, combined with the growth we are experiencing as an industry, students and recent graduates who have the right outlook and potential have incredible opportunities to move quickly into the industry and fast-track their careers. Depending on your career path you stand to benefit from a number of the BEE elements.

Students and recent graduates can benefit from BEE through:

  • Bursaries (socio-economic development)
  • Industry investments in education and youth development programmes (socio-economic development)
  • Incentives for employers to invest in skills development for their staff including recent graduates (skills development and employment equity)
  • The emphasis placed on increasing the number of black women in the industry (employment equity)
  • Opportunities to buy shares in companies that seek to transform (ownership)
  • The industry’s support of and involvement in Khuthaza’s Student Development programmes
